The magic of metal jigs

MAGINE that you’re stranded on a desert island with lots of fish, and you’re allowed to take only one lure. What would it be? The first thing that pops into my head is a metal casting lure. Why? Because these seemingly simple lures are built to catch fish. They’re incredibly versatile with many species willing to take them. They’re also versatile when it comes to techniques and retrieves and territory where they’re fished.

What is a jig lure?

There are many popular fishing techniques practiced by anglers, and jigging is one of the popular ones. This versatile technique can be practiced in both saltwater and freshwater.

For all those who wonder - what is jigging in fishing?

Jigging is a fishing technique where angles use jig baits and attract fish with mostly vertical, jerky, motion of the bait.

Do jig lure work?

Metal jig lures attract many different species. Down south they're dynamite on fish like tailor, salmon, kings, bonito, tuna and more. Further north, all sorts of predatory species will eat a jig lure. Mackerel, tunas, trevallies and a host of species all find them irresistible.

It’s not just saltwater fish that find jig lure hard to refuse. In the fresh, trout, redfin and most natives will walk a well-presented metal jig lure. They really are the lure for all species.

Type of jig lure

There are many different varieties of jigs. Some are thin, others are fat, some are dead straight, while others, like the Bumper Bar lures, feature a shape curve. They all work and it's a matter of choosing one depending on the species you’re chasing. These lures work across a range of speeds and over the years have accounted for an astonishing number of fish world-wide.

Conclusion

1.As one of the simplest and most basic bait, jig lure can be made into various weights. This means that the scope of application of the jig lure is amazing. It is specifically reflected in the water depth of the application - whether it is 5 meters or 500 meters of water depth, the jig lure can be used, but other lures are very difficult.
The fish is actually very simple, and the most direct way to catch it is to put the bait to its mouth. However, all kinds of fish in the sea are not all in the same water layer, and even one kind of fish does not necessarily live in one water layer all day long (such as sea bass). Therefore, if there is a bait that can catch all kinds of water layers, it must be universal and attractive.
I summed up the correspondence of "weight-depth" as - attack layer. The attack layer of the jig lure is very extensive!

2.The material of jig lure is often metal, which has strong plasticity, is very convenient to manufacture and can be made into various sizes and shapes. This means that the design of the metal jig is extremely free, simple and ever-changing, and can be designed in a targeted manner, which brings a wealth of products for players to use, and various jig lure have their own characteristics.
Different shapes of jig lure have different postures in the water. What’s more, most baits in nature can rely on the design of jig lure to achieve the effect of “mimicry”.

3. The jig lure is different from all kinds of bait (like Minnow, Popper, Crank baits, Pencil), jig lure itself doesn’t have a distinct swimming posture, and the swimming posture of the jig lure can be displayed through actively operated by the player. This is a very attractive way to play, expand and absorb development.
The attack layer is extensive, the shape is various, and the operation is changeable. This is the basis on which jig lure fishing can be independent.
“The foundation is even-changing”. This is the "philosophy" of jig lure fishing.
